I reread my last blog about elderly racists making public statements as a way to let the world know who they are before they die. This was validated yesterday when the elderly owner of a predominately African American basketball team was recorded saying he did not want his girl friend to be seen with blacks and he did not want her to bring blacks to the games. Seriously??
It is interesting to note the ages of these racists. However, I would not begin to suggest that racism does not exist amongst younger generations. It does, but I don’t want to add to their strength by giving illustrations.
Instead I would suggest that everyone watch “Carl Sagan’s Cosmos: A Personal Voyage” , a 13 part television series presented by National Geographic and Fox on Sunday evenings. www.cosmosontv.com The series is narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson, an African American. It challenges our beliefs about creation and religion while providing a scientific explanation of the ways we are all related. Watching and discussing this series is far more beneficial than paying attention to hateful thoughts based in ignorance.
